American Armed Forces Executes Deadly Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths

According to a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces executed a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Recent Actions

The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has encountered growing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
