Two Victims Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Gunman.

Two students who were killed in the weekend's tragic incident in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, remarking: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 detained in a raid at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke fresh anxiety for our community”.

The gunman discharged a weapon inside a room in the engineering building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source informed the Associated Press.

Police that entered the hotel seized two firearms and magazines when the person of interest was arrested, according to reports.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was allowed to go home, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and fellow students and lament the passing of his promising future.”
